Denver Aquarium

On Thursday, we decided to take the day and head down to Denver to see a few sights.  We took the kids to the Aquarium primarily because Zach is obsessed with underwater animals.   If you've read through any of the older posts, you'll know he's crazy about "Finding Nemo" and also the Disney Nature movie, "Oceans."  He won't sit still for any other movies and he's just fascinated by things that live under the water.

The aquarium was really fun! We saw a sample of a flash flood in the desert, seahorses, rays, clown fish (Nemo fish) and even a shark tank!  The shark tank was great because there was room for everyone to see all of the different sharks and they even had glass in the floor that you could see the sharks swim through!

After the tour of the aquarium, we had the kids faces painted and Zach won a Nemo doll by playing a little carnival ducky game.  It was so sweet that the lady running the booth saw how crazy Zach was for the Nemo doll and she helped make sure that he won that prize!  He was so proud and the rest of the kids looked like super-stars with their face painting.

We decided to eat at the restaurant downstairs in the aquarium.  Jeannie and I had no idea that there would be a huge viewing tank in the restaurant!  It was amazing and every seat allowed you to get a great view of sharks and other large fish.  Just as we were settling down to eat with our food, the kids spotted mermaids diving into the fish tank and music started blaring from the restaurant stereo system.  It was a really cool show and they kids were entranced watching the mermaids swim all over the tank.  They keep a diver in the tank to make sure that the "mermaids" are safe at all times, so he got out last.  Zach was really freaked out when he saw him because he thought he was the bad guy "diver" from Nemo who took Nemo from the reef.  :(
